I was hired by the architectural firm of Chipman Design Architecture in Chicago to photograph their finished interior work throughout the building.

The firm worked closely with Bally to develop an entirely new upscale Prototype for its diverse

demographic.  Presenting a Bally brand that is modern and relevant, this premium state-of-the art health club features a completely updated interior and exterior design/planning package.

Beyond programming and planning, Chipman Designs talented team of design professionals uses its inventiveness to conceive meaningful new uses of space, incorporating the latest in 3D computer modeling and visualization.  Through its more than three decades as architects, the visionary selection of finishes and furnishings for retail, restaurant, hospitality and corporate projects has created a rich history of successful ventures.

The brand new facility features: two swimming pools, sauna, 10,000 square foot workout equipment area, spinning room, racquetball courts, 2,000 square foot hardwood workout room and a monitored children’s area.

The majority of the required images were interior photographs of the main workout floor, adjacent workout rooms and swimming pools.  For the exterior images, I used a tripod that extends to 7 feet in order to give an accurate perspective of the building features.  With the exterior facing west, the best light was just before and after sunset and into twilight.

I was able to produce some of the interior architectural photography using only available light, then layer masking in post production to control contrast and color balance.  I used my Paul Buff Einstein 460 strobes with pyrex glass dome bounced into white umbrellas when the available light alone would not give us the results that we needed.

As Denver architectural photographer, I strive to produce a natural view of a buildings exterior or interior space.  Composition and camera placement are the keys to a quality architectural photography.  A precise blend of natural light and studio style is needed to create an image to showcase a space.  Most architectural interior shoots can sometimes be a tedious process of portable studio light placement and adjustment to highlight every detail.  I work meticulously to photograph a high quality image that is sharp from edge-to-edge.
